God’s Word has all the Answers as to How to Raise Your Child.

We should all feel weak in the area of raising children as, on our own, we are unable to achieve greatness as parents. We need to depend on God to help us raise our children correctly.

“God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble”. (James 4:6)

The more you experience God’s love and grace, the more you are able to extend His love and grace to others, -especially in your immediate family.

Follow these 10 guidelines from God’s Word to help you to confidently raise your child.

 1. Start training your children as soon as possible so that when they are older they will continue on the right path.

“Train up a child in the way he/she should go, and when he/she is old he/she will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6) NKJ

Children are never too young or too old to begin to learn how to pray.  Thanking God for the food he provides for you at each meal, is a good place to start.  Teach your children to pray to God for anything, no matter how big or small.  -If they get hurt teach them to pray to God for healing.

2. Discipline your children whenever they need it.

“Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of correction will drive it far from him/her.” (Proverbs 22:15) NKJ

Life is about discipline. Children need your guidance in this area, as they won’t have it on their own. It is the parent’s job to instill discipline and order into their children’s lives.

 3. Teach your children something from God’s Word every day.

“These words which I command you today shall be in your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk to them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” (Deuteronomy 6:6-7) NKJ

Incorporating God’s Word into children’s everyday life helps to open their eyes to all the beauty and events around them.  Chat about the character of Jesus and ask your children whether they can see how Jesus would react in any given situation.  Also, ask your children whether their actions are ‘of Jesus’, so that they learn to think about the character traits of Him, in relation to themselves.

 4. Trusting God that your children are not destined for trouble.

“They shall not labor in vain, not bring forth children for trouble; for they shall be the descendants of the blessed of the LORD, and their off spring with them.” (Isaiah 65:23) NKJ

Trusting God is a learned habit and one that comes with constant prayer and guidance from the Holy Spirit.  Daily proclaim the Word of God over your children!  Speak positive words to your children, not negative ones, as children can easily become what you speak over them.

5. Pray fervently day and night for your children.

“Arise, cry out in the night at the beginning of the watches: pour out your heart like water before the face of the LORD.  Lift your hands toward Him for the life of your young children, who faint from hunger at the head of every street.” (Lamentations 2:19) NKJ

Nothing is more powerful than the power of prayer.  Pray consistently for your children.   Seek God and ask Him to guide you daily.  Release your children into God’s hands.  A praying parent is the best parent of all.

 6. Give your children Godly training, not angry commands.

“You, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in training and admonition of the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:4) NKJ

Anger and hash comments are not what God wants us to convey to our children.  Respect is earned, so work with your children and not against them. Speak positive words not negative ones.

 7. When you do what’s right, your children will be blessed.

“The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him.” (Proverbs 20:7) NKJ

The fruit of your prayers will be seen in your children, as time goes on.  With God in control of your children’s lives, fear of failure vanishes. When God is your partner, success for life is guaranteed.

 8. Keep praying when things get difficult and refuse to give up.

“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.   Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the LORD!” (Psalm 27:13-14) NKJ

You are bound to have difficult times as a parent however, with the gift of prayer, you can always seek the Lord. He will give you the strength to keep going.  God tells us;

“You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and His rule” . Matthew: ‘The Beatitudes’…

 9. Know that your children are God’s reward to you.

“Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward.” (Psalm 127:3) NKJ

It is God who blesses us with children. He had planned them for us, long before they were even born.  Embrace this blessing and nurture your children with God’s guidance.

10. The LORD hears every prayer for your children.

“For this child I prayed, and the LORD has granted me my petition which I asked of Him.” (1 Samuel 1:27) NKJ

God hears your prayers. He knows your strengths and your weaknesses.  He will always meet you where you are.  Consult God every day and ask Him to help you become the best parents you can be.

Surrender!

The only way to be totally sure that God is in control of your children is to surrender your hold on them. This allows God full access to their lives. God wants you to come to Him and to find His grace, which will help you with whatever you need. Allow God to fully work in you, which will give you the confidence to raise your children.

The best thing you can do for your children is to pray FOR them and WITH them.

Riding bikes with grandfather. Grandfathers are always praying for their grandchildren.

Go with His grace!

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, I release my children into Your hands and pray that You would protect and guide them.  Please put on my heart what I need to pray, regarding my children.  I realise that I don’t have the ability to be a perfect parent, but You do. Thank you! In Jesus name I pray… Amen.
