Activities.
Homeschool:
February was a busy school month. Paula Joy and Murray John worked hard and managed to achieve all their school goals. Twice, during the month, I had to take Paula Joy to morning appointments, to renewing her passport and have her toe x-rayed. On both those days, I left Murray John at home with his school work. He was very diligent as he managed to do his work whilst I was away. He sat in his father’s farm office for the morning, working quietly. Paula Joy simply started school once her appointments were finished for the day. Our children have learnt that the work needs to be done regardless of whether they start early or late morning.
Paula Joy and Murray John continued to sell banana’s this month. They went up to selling 100kg of bananas per week. They give 10% of their profits to the church, then the remainder of the sales profits will provide them with pocket money for their trip to South Africa. They have had to convert their Zimbabwe bond currency to rand, which is good for their math skills and has taught them about currency exchange rates.
Zimbabwe economy:
Our economy continues to slide into chaos. We are learning to live on a very basic diet, as any imported foods or beverages are extremely expensive. The children are finding out all about inflation and how to manage with the never-ending price increases. Whenever we go to town, we have to shop around to find cheaper sources of food.
Homeschool Art:
To celebrating Valentines day in February, the children did lovely cards for their friends. Only a little boy would put a tractor on a valentines card!
Homeschool Sport:
Murray John’s tennis lessons have increased to one and a half hours per lesson, which he manages easily. The gym work continues to work on their muscle toning, core strength and body awareness. Paula Joy is still struggling with her growing pains so has only done a little tennis this month, mostly servicing and stationary hitting.
Horses:
This month, Paula Joy and Murray John continued to ride their ponies and improve their jumping skills. They have spent time riding with shorter stirrups, and with no stirrups, to improve their balance and riding seats. In their vaulting lessons, they are learning to do their compulsory tests at the canter. It’s amazing to see how confident they are in standing on a horse at the canter.
They attended a pony club rally and had lessons for the afternoon. They love to take their ponies into the lorry and ride along with them.
Adventures:
Farm Life:
It’s been a busy month on the farm with tobacco reaping and curing. The children helped with weighing in the trucks over the weighbridge. Murray John was enthusiastic about working in the digger, fixing roads and contours. We have enjoyed some beautiful, relaxing evenings sitting on the big rock overlooking the dam. Both children have learnt how to make a fire and keep it burning. Farm life always provides something new and interesting for them to do and see.
