Homeschooling Adventures and Activities.

Our Homeschooling Activities:

Homeschooling.

In July and August our homeschooling adventures and activates happened on the go, spending our time in Harare for polo tournaments, or on the farm with the horses, getting ready for the next tournament.- All this whilst the children worked on their schoolwork.

We do understand that, during the polo season, the children struggle to meet their monthly homeschooling goals. Subsequently, they make up for this, once the polo season is over.

During July and August we needed to dedicate a significant amount of effort and attention to Paula Joy and Murray John’s polo skills and to their horses, as they were both chosen to play for Zimbabwe.

Accelerated Christian Education International Summit.

I felt incredibly fortunate to be able to participate in an ACE International Summit, held in the Drakensberg area of South Africa. It was a wonderful three days, filled with Christian worship and very interesting talks and presentations. I was able to connect with many like-minded parents and educators, all utilizing the ACE curriculum. I truly appreciated the opportunity to forge new international friendships, whilst hearing their inspiring testimonies.

Individualized Christian Education is unparalleled in its ability to nurture each child, allowing them to flourish and thrive, whilst acquiring the wisdom and knowledge they need to navigate the world.

Paula Joy’s Health.

In July, Paula Joy began to feel significantly better, allowing her to engage more in sports and to resume her homeschooling. It’s delightful to witness her cheerful personality making a comeback!

Based on my previous health experiences, I have learned the importance of not relying solely on one doctor’s diagnosis. Instead, I sought guidance, through prayer and consultation, with other medical professionals and homeopathic experts. Paula Joy definitely needed a variety of treatments to bring her to abundant health.

Grandparents Visit.

Having my parents visit for three weeks in July and August was fantastic! They enjoyed watching their grandchildren play wonderful polo, while also participating in our hectic horsey lifestyle! Thanks to homeschooling, the children had a chance to spend lots of quality time with their grandparents.

Meeting Ross Branch.

The children had the wonderful opportunity to meet their ‘Dakar Hero’, Ross Branch, who was visiting Zimbabwe for a Motocross tournament.

meeting Ross Branch

Ross exemplifies humility in success and is an excellent role model for children. A big thanks to Ross, for time spent with us!

Pony Masters.

In July and August, we hosted two international polo tournaments, during which both Paula John and Murray John had the opportunity to serve as Pony Masters.

They really enjoy this role, as it involves organizing the horses for the visiting players and ensuring that each horse is prepared on time. I have encouraged them to take on this responsibility, as it helps them learn how to manage and interact with people professionally. This will stand them in good stead, when they eventually have the chance to travel.

Horses.

Junior Open.

The Junior Open is one of the tournaments we always enjoy and look forward to…

This year, Paula Joy and Murray John participated, with their father and a family friend making up the team. Having won the tournament last year, we were all committed to reclaiming our title this year. We succeeded in a sudden death chukka, and Murray John was named the most valuable player. Altogether, it was a most thrilling game!

Zimbabwe vs Ireland International.

Murray John was chosen to represent Zimbabwe in an 8-goal polo tournament against Ireland.

His horses performed exceptionally well, although Zimbabwe lost the final match by half a goal. However, this was an incredible experience for him and one he will always cherish, going forward…

Ladies Polo International.

The season concluded with the Ladies Pink Polo weekend, during which the Zambian ladies team faced off against our Zimbabwean ladies, in two matches.

Paula Joy was chosen for the team, and they had a wonderful weekend, although they lost to the Zambian ladies, by just half a goal. However, they all gained invaluable experience and made us very proud of our Zimbabwe Ladies!

The horses are now ready to return to the farm for a much-deserved few months rest.

Homeschooling Sports.

Due to the busy Polo season, there has not been much time for other sports, except for the occasional nine holes of golf. Golf and Cricket will be the primary sports during the upcoming summer months.

Our Homeschooling Adventures:

Farm Life.

Our time on the farm was restricted to just a few days over the past two months…

baling hay

We had to take some time off school, to bale hay for our horses. As the children had to handle all the baling and transporting of the hay, their days starting at 6:00 a.m. and finishing at 8:00 p.m. Despite all the hard work, they are now able to include hay baling in their list of skills!

Zimbabwe Economy.

I am sitting on the ground beneath a tree, in rural Zimbabwe, – waiting for Paula Joy to finish her ID application. In this area of Zimbabwe, everything is rather disorganized… . Applications are still processed manually, in dimly lit offices, due to the lack of electricity.

The queues are long, with everyone standing out in the hot sun. The benches are broken, the toilets are out of order, and there’s only a bowser for drinking water.

As I wait for Paula Joy, I am, however, grateful for some modern technology, which allows me to work on my computer, whilst seated on the dusty ground outside!

New Farming Adventure.

We’re thrilled to announce that a new farming adventure begins for our family in September/October of this year. We can’t wait to share our transition and our new life activities with you,- this time on a large farm in the Marondera area.

God bless and keep your eyes on Jesus.
