7 Steps to Shape your Child’s Destiny through Prayer.

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not turn from it” Proverbs 22:6 (NIV).

  1. First Educators.
  2. Godly Parents.
  3. Eternity Most Important.
  4. Bring Your Child to Jesus.
  5. God doesn’t make Mistakes.
  6. Stand in the Gap.
  7. Parents have Authority.

1. Parents are always the first educators of their children.

As a parent you are the best person to take control of your child’s destiny. Since conception you have been shaping your child.   There is no substitute for the kind and loving interest and participation of parents in a child’s life. That’s what parents are for and they are the ones who can do it best!

2. Godly parents.

The first qualification you need to raise Godly children is to be a Godly parent. Without that, you will fail. Children need role models in Faithful, God Fearing, God Seeking parental role models. As your children watch you walk in faith, they will learn to walk in faith as well. This is the wonderful affirmation of homeschooling.

3. Eternity is most important.

While the academics of homeschooling is certainly important, eternity is the most important part of a child’s destiny. Always remember that God sees the big picture and is in control. As a Godly parent we need to start by taking hold of God’s amazing grace. His grace will cover all of our mistakes and shortcomings.   Ultimately, He is actually the one doing the work and shaping our child’s destiny and He has promised to complete it. All you need to do is ask and receive… -God’s miraculous, transforming power will change you from the person you were, to the person your child can respect and follow.

4. Bring your child to Jesus.

As a parent we are the ones who need to bring our children to Jesus. The success of homeschooling firstly lies in the parents relationship with God, secondly it lies in creating a healthy family environment, where a child may develop and blossom as a person, with unique personality and talents.

To obtain this, every home needs to aim to maintain God’s pattern for divine authority.

1. Wives submitting to husbands,

2. Husbands loving the wives as Christ loves the church

3. Children obeying their parents in the Lord.

This will minimize the devil’s opportunities, in any home, and allow God to build your destiny from the foundation upwards.

From the time of conception a parent needs to pray for God to reveal the child’s gifts, talents, and abilities, which He has placed in each of their children. Then pray for God to show you how to best nurture and develop them for His glory. It is never too late to start praying and asking God for guidance, as well as a discerning heart towards your child.

5. When it came to children, God didn’t make any mistakes.

Children are all blessings from above. God has blessed you with the gift of children. He is not going to desert you now, however you need to communicate with Him continually… Embrace homeschooling and the amazing opportunity it gives you, as you are the tool, which the Lord uses to shape your child’s destiny.

“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)

Remember that it is the LORD who is the One who makes things happen and gets results. All we have to remember is to ask. Teach  your children to continually ask the Lord for guidance towards their destiny.

When you pray for your children, it’s as if you take your heavenly Father’s hand in one hand – and your child’s hand in the other. – Together you walk the road towards your child’s God given destiny.

6. Stand in the gap and pray for your child.

Every step of the way, Godly parents pray for their children.   Why?….because prayer is the most powerful and effective weapon a parent has, especially in their battle against the designs of the devil, the world, and the flesh. Daily prayers, on behalf of you children, is our God-given privilege and your sacred duty as a parent. Pray wisely, often and well.

“The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” James 5:16 (NIV)

7. We have authority over our children that is given to us by the Lord.

Embrace this and run with it. Ask for the things your child needs – a believing heart, a strong character, a spirit of gratitude, and a Godly attitude. Believe and you will receive.

While many parents have an agenda for their children, we still need to seek out God’s plan for their lives. When a child’s life is left to chance – a kind of vocational wandering can result, allowing for needless floundering, disappointment, doubt and despair, as the child tries to carve out a place for himself.

Those who stand for nothing…. Fall for anything…  Alexander Hamilton.

Stay focused on the end goal of your child’s destiny. Don’t let society shape your children and change your children. As your child is a child in Christ he/she will be an enemy to those who are not. Be strong and stand firm!

You could not give your children a more valuable gift than the gift of prayer.  Prayer works!

 Power belongs to God…

Prayer: Heavenly Father I pray that (name of child) will respect the wisdom of his/her parents and be willing to be taught by them. Help my child to excel in school and do well in any classes he /she may take. Make the pathways of learning smooth and not something with which he/she must strain and struggle. Give my child clarity of thought, organization, good memory, and strong learning ability. I say to (name of child), according to Your Word… “May the Lord give you understanding in all things” (2 Timothy 2:7). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
